Dr. Ademola Adediji

Dr. Ademola Adediji is an expert in international affairs and serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Chair of International Relations and European Affairs, University of Cologne, Germany. He is also a Senior Research Affiliate with the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security, and Society.

Mr. Adediji once served at the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. A Nigerian national, Dr. Adediji has resided in Germany for more than three decades. He completed his secondary education and A-Levels in Germany before studying Political Science, Anglo-American History, and English at the University of Cologne. He subsequently earned a Dr. rerum politicarum (Dr. rer. pol.), a Doctor of Polical Sciences and International Relations.

His primary research focuses on ethnic and religious conflicts, genocide prevention, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), terrorism, and related issues, with particular emphasis on Africa and broader global contexts. He is the author of several scholarly publications. Among his most notable works is the widely cited book: The Politicization of Ethnicity as a Source of Conflict: The Nigerian Situation.

In addition, he has published numerous articles on topics including genocide and violent conflict, the spread of terrorism across the African continent, and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P). Dr. Adediji is currently working on a new book that examines contemporary issues of race and racism in different parts of the world, as well as questions relating to genocide, crimes against humanity, and other mass atrocity crimes in countries affected by war and violent conflict. In recent years, Dr. Adediji has been regularly featured on television as an international affairs expert, providing analysis and commentary on a wide range of global issues.
